Bindings firm, but there is some cracking and minor separation of boards from the upper and lower exterior gutters of volumes one and two. Red-stained page edges. Elaborate marbled endpapers in each volume. Some light occasional toning to pages of text. Contents otherwise clean and very good with 63 detailed fold-out plates ranging from such subjects as mathematics, geometry, trigonometry, perspective, geography, navigation, astronomy, architecture, etc. Of particular interest to the military historian is a large section of volume three devoted to military engineering, fortifications, artillery, and pyrotechnics. Text in French. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
