VG+, 3 volumes as one, 1st eds, 64 pls, 1787, 94 & 92 In oblong contemporary dark green straight grained morocco gilt, with the gilt cipher ''XS'' surmounted by a crown at the head of the spine, a.e.g., Internally, bound without the half title, engraved tp (Seats of the Nobility and…Gentry), followed by 40 pls (B&W & dated 1786-1795) each with a leaf of descriptive text. Bound With: Select Views in the Cities of Bath and Bristol, tp, followed by 12 pls (B&W, dated 1794), lacks all the descriptive text leaves. Bound With: Collection of Views of Gentlemen's Seats, 1792, John and Josiah Boydell, [2] titlepage, 7 leaves of descriptive text, 12 pls (B&W, dated 1792). Gilt tooling to board edges, & turn-ins, library letter Z6 to fpd, crease to ffep leaf, some light foxing and offsetting. With sixty-four engraved plates, most with accompanying descriptive letterpress. Good early impressions of a fine collection of plates, complete as they stand. The three volumes would appear to have been bound up very soon after they were issued and so do not incorporate any plates published subsequently. "In little estimation except the impressions be good"- Lowndes. The Angus contains 40 plates only of 63, although the remaining plates would appear to have been issued subsequently to 1787. Watts'' Bath and Bristol contains 12 plates, of Bath only, dated 1794 although Abbey''s copy was a later issue calling for 15 plates with the date 1819. The descriptive letter press is absent.
