Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition, 1st printing. Pristine, clean & tight copy, unread, in FINE condition. "The 264 letters in this volume represent the extant correspondence between them from the summer of 1940 to the spring of 1958, plus a few additional letters exchanged between 1958 and 1971. Simon Karlinsky has provided a superb introductory essay and running commentary which give us the background and the context we need to understand the remarkable affinity between the two writers---and the sources of their eventual estrangement. The result is obviously a book of interest to lovers of literature; beyond that, it has for all readers of biography the fascination of self-portraiture. It is filled with the characters and quirkiness of two extraordinary men." Deckle edge, binding tight, jacket intact, FINE & quite presentable for its age.…
