He had little or no education and left school to work at the age of ten. This book is a collection of poems in the Scottish dialect that were written between the age of thirteen and nineteen. They were composed at night, beside the Chimla-lug (chimney), after a hard day's toil. The book is bound in the original brown cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards and light bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few marks frrom finger smudges. There is a small foxing mark near the middle of the fore edge of the first dozen or so pages. There is no inscription.…
