There is a steeplechase coming up and young Alfred has his heart set on his horse, 'The Saint' winning, though the jumps are high. He enlists the help of 'Only', the stable boy, and promises Only his help in return. When The Saint takes the jumps when he isn't supposed to, and a criminal is captured, Alfred is able to do more for Only than he had dreamed.

He was also helped by Barefoot Williams who was the original owner of the flat saddle Jory purchased to begin training Pete for Jumpers, plus encouragement of Mr. Grayson, a famous judge of jumpers on the lookout for horses for the Olympic team.
