The red card covers with red tape binding are missing the silver foil wrapper purportedly present as issued. Still, the 178 interior pages (including blank end papers) of this 'anthology of revolutionary effects mummified for the coffee table' appear clean, complete and securely bound. Bit of rubbing and thumbingi.e., light soiling from handlingon the pages' fore edge. The front cover has a penned math calculation, a small sticker of a Cardinal bird, and the residue or outline of tape which once secured two decorative illustrations added to the cover by a prior owner. (Those loose illustrations with yellowed tape at their edges are now laid in.) The spine tail has also been lightly bumped causing light creases to the covers and in the binding tape. Finally, there is is a half-inch tear in the binding tape along the rear spine edge and a related flap crease. No ex-library markings. **Extra shipping charges may requested to cover postage costs on an expedited and/or international order because of the size and weight of this rare publication.

Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition, First Printing. THE EVERYDAY MADE EXTRAORDINARY. Robert Walker's New York Inside Out unites one of the pioneers of modern color street photography with an original introduction by Beat writer William S. Burroughs. Published in 1984, the book presents New York not as architecture or landmark but as an explosion of advertising, storefronts, reflections, pedestrians, and visual collisions that transformed everyday urban life into photographic theater. This copy carries an exceptional association. It is warmly inscribed by Skyline Press publisher Roger Boulton to legendary Horizon Press publisher Ben Raeburn, recognizing Raeburn as 'an inspiration to so many authors, artists and fellow-publishers.' The inscription directly links two important independent publishers whose work helped shape postwar American literary and artistic culture. NEW YORK IN FULL COLOR. Walker emerged alongside photographers such as William Eggleston and Stephen Shore during the rise of serious color photography. Rather than seeking carefully ordered compositions, he embraced the city's accidental juxtapositions, commercial signage, saturated storefronts, and fleeting human encounters. The resulting photographs capture New York during a period when visual excess became part of the city's identity. THE BEAT CONNECTION. Burroughs's introduction provides an ideal literary counterpart, interpreting Walker's images through the lens of perception, consciousness, and modern experience. Together they create a work that appeals equally to collectors of photography, Beat literature, and twentieth-century visual culture. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Publisher's blue cloth, photographic dust jacket. Oblong format measuring approximately 10.5 by 8.75 inches. Eighty-eight pages of full-color photography with unnumbered introductory and title leaves. First Edition, First Printing. PROVENANCE: Inscribed by Roger Boulton, publisher of Skyline Press, to Ben Raeburn, founder of Horizon Press: With kindest regards to Ben Raeburn, who has been an inspiration to so many authors, artists and fellow-publishers. Roger Boulton 11 September '84 From the estate of Ben Raeburn and subsequently retained by his longtime partner Patricia. The inscription represents a meaningful acknowledgment between two independent publishers whose careers intersected within the modern American literary and art publishing community. CONDITION: Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket. Bindings tight and square. Cloth fresh and unfaded. Interior exceptionally clean and bright with no ownership markings beyond the publisher's presentation inscription. Dust jacket retains excellent color with a short closed tear at the upper front edge and light handling to the rear panel. No chips or significant fading. CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE: COLOR BECAME SERIOUS-PHOTOGRAPHING THE ORDINARY. During the 1970s and 1980s, photographers including Walker, Eggleston, and Shore helped establish color photography as a major artistic medium rather than merely a commercial or documentary tool. Walker's photographs embrace the visual overload of New York, transforming ordinary streets into complex studies of modern life, consumer culture, and urban spectacle. PHOTOGRAPHY MEETS LITERATURE. William S. Burroughs's introduction extends the book beyond photography. His reflections connect Walker's imagery to the Beat exploration of perception and consciousness, suggesting that the city's fragmented visual experience mirrors modern psychological experience. The collaboration brings together two distinct creative voices whose interests converge around seeing familiar places in unfamiliar ways. A PUBLISHER TO A PUBLISHER. The presentation inscription elevates this copy beyond a signed example. Roger Boulton's tribute to Ben Raeburn documents the mutual respect shared among independent publishers who fostered modern literature and the arts outside mainstream commercial publishing. For collectors of Horizon Press, Beat literature, or twentieth-century publishing history, the a. Signed.
