Contact seller5-star sellerPoor condition - needs to be re-backed and sold as is. Sectional pagination. Hardcover: H 18cm x L 11.25cm. Spine leather perished with underlying paper back-strip exposed lengthwise; rubbed marbled paper boards with well worn leather spine margins and leather fore-edge corners. Toning/foxing, some soiling, and a few stains to l…eaves; insect nibbling at top fore-edge corners of rear leaves. Both boards are tenuously attached at joints/hinges but text block remains firm. Although no copyright date is provided OCLC indicates that this volume (issued among a larger set) was published circa 1845; the book's paper and typeset certainly seem contemporary to that date. Conflicting Memphis, Tennessee bindery ticket "Bound by Boyle & Chapman, 279 1/2 Main St., Memphis, Tenn." affixed at front pastedown's top left; Boyle & Chapman was a rather short-lived firm as OCLC cites company imprints from only 1871 to 1876; presence of Boyle & Chapman ticket should mean the binding is their product but, with the spine leather perished and the board leather degraded, it is difficult to ascertain whether the binding reflects American or British/Scottish work; antebellum and Reconstruction-era/postbellum bindery tickets for the American South are quite uncommon. Contents: {No. 96} Life of Columbus; {No. 97} Narrative of the Russian Campaign; {No. 98} Love is Power; {No. 99} Story of Alexander Andrayne; {No. 100} Anecdotes of Spiders; {No. 101} The Village Mayor; {No. 101} The Story of Fritz; {No. 101} The Bird-Catcher and his Canary; {No. 102} An Account of the Borders; {No. 103} Select Poetical Works of Cowper; {No. 104} Life of Peter the Great; {No. 105} Story of De La Tude; {No. 106} The Moors in Spain; {No. 107} The Montyon Prizes et al; {No. 108} Curiosities of Art.-I. Architecture; {#109} The Persecutions in Scotland; {#110} The Three Ways of Living et al; {#111} The Child of Elle, and other Ballads.
