Dark green cloth rubbed, spine's lettering and stamping presumably once gilt now heavily dulled to a difficult to discern muted green, front board's gilt stamping remains reasonab…ly bright but not vibrant, front board's color pictorial paste-on has light wear at edges. Some scuffing, light toning, and foxing to edges; toning to endpapers; several interior leaves following b/w plates have brown foxing spots at their margins. Contemporary Birmingham, Alabama bookseller ticket for The Studio Book Shop affixed at front free endpaper's bottom left corner. Binding slightly stressed between page 232 and opposing b/w plate which also has stray ink mark at lower fore-edge margin shallowly affecting a corner of bottom image; some pencil underlining to text on pages 59 and 72; no other pen or pencil marks readily apparent upon a quick perusal. A good copy of an uncommon book. With b/w frontispiece plus 24 b/w plates all on unpaged leaves as well as small b/w vignette illustrations as chapter head and tailpieces. Features 25 chapters including "Roy Cohen's Negro Quarter" (regarding detective novelist Octavus Roy Cohen) and "Iron for the Confederacy.".
