Just a beautifully illustrated book to identify common flowers. "With the help of Will. Stephens' beautiful drawings you should have no difficulty in recognizing the flowers as shown in this book. You'll learn that many of them have come to us from nearly all parts of the world and that is one reason why they do not all possess a common name, so easy to remember, like most of our wildflowers. With this book you can walk around the garden and, at the same time, almost travel the world and imagination." [from the Introduction].

Unlike many of his contemporaries who traveled and studied in the Art Centers of Europe, Stevens never felt the need to leave the United States. He began by painting the hills and valleys along the Ohio River near Vevay. As he moved South he painted the mountains of Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. Later in New Orleans he painted the Bayou Country in Louisiana, but it was the mountains and their people that made the biggest impact and continued to dominate his work for his entire life." Good (some minor shelfwear, stain on back cover, continues onto inner page edges but is slight).
