In very good minus pictorial olive green cloth boards, with two tone image of two sialors on a boat with off white and black titles, The boards are flat, unmarked and a little wobbly from slight damage to hinge; spine ends bumped. Slightly tanned free end papers; brief dedication on front free end paper with date (1941). The text block is tightly bound, even and with slightly tanned and foxed cut edges and page edges. With five black and white and colour plates (including frontispiece) by W. Edward Wigfull. Very good minus condition. In fair pictorial dust jacket with colour image of ship at sea and white titles. The jacket is very worn, especially to edges, with open and closed tears and small pieces missing. Price clipped. In removable protective sleeve.

Originally published by Blackie in 1940. The first edition was thicker and had an illustration on the spine of the boards. There is a little light bumping and rubbing to the corners but the boards are otherwise unmarked. Light marking to the page edges. Gift message in ink on the front free end paper. The pages are otherwise unmarked. The jacket has chipping with a little loss at the top and bottom of the spine and the corners and there are half-inch closed tears at the bottom corners of the front panel with some creasing between these. Light discolouration to the rear panel. The jacket has a 5/- price printed on the front flap. Illustrated by W.E. Wigfull with four monochrome plates. First printing.
