The Jupiter was piloted by its owner and designer, John Wise (1808-1879), an American balloonist who contributed many scientific innovations to the field of ballooning. The book includes a brief historical account about Wise, The Jupiter, and artist Austin Briggs by printer James Lamar Weygand; the text of an article that originally appeared in the Lafayette Courier on August 18, 1859; progressive draft illustrations by Briggs for a 7c air stamp commemorating the voyage of The Jupiter; and a tipped-in postage stamp from 1959 (not 1859) commemorating The Jupiter's voyage. Back colophon: "100 copies printed and bound by James Lamar Weygand, Press of the Indiana Kid, Nappanee, Indiana, for Maestro Books, 1967.". …
