Slight cracking at gutter between front endpapers. A nice copy with a few B/W illustrations through out by Wells himself. Wells Society # 56. "This book includes a satirical view of Henry James which brought an end to the friendship between the two writers. Wells wrote a letter on the subject to the Daily News (3RD March, 1916)". The book purports to be by fictional author Reginald Bliss and for some time after Wells denied ownership. The 2nd edition of the book (published in 1920) does, however, acknowledges Wells' authorship on the title page.
