Buch. Condition: Neu.

Contact seller4-star sellerSoftcover. Condition: poor to vg-. First edition. Octavo. 230 [1]pp., 2 plates. Original stiff gray wraps with black publisher's device and lettering in decorative ruling on cover, black lettering on spine; protected by modern mylar. Publisher's device on title page. Issued by "Centre de Documentation Juive Contemporaine. Série Études et Monographies." One of two publications by the Contemporary Jewish Documentation Center. From 1942 onwards all the detainees of the various French Camps ended up in Drancy. It was the assembly center for Jewish victims to be handed over to the Germans. Later, in 1943, when the occupation was complete and reaching total control of France, roundups, arrests, and deportations would be executed by the Gestapo, French militias, and the Waffen SS and take complete control over Drancy. The history of Drancy became the subject of Wellers' study, from its founding on August 20, 1941, to its liquidation on August 17, 1944. It covers the important events taking place in Drancy, the internal organization, the mechanisms of deportation and the behavior of its inmates and their masters. The second part consist of a series of brief monographs devoted to deportees the author had the opportunity to get to know closely. Sometimes the author evokes scenarios of other Nazi Prisons like Auschwitz and Buchenwald. Contains a list of the author's friends who died or disappeared during deportation. The work is illustrated with three reproductions of woodcuts by Grotko and several reproductions of documents. Text in French. Back wrapper missing, with final leaf detached but present. Front wrapper with some wear along edges, small chips, more pronounced on spine. Block age-toned due to paper quality. Wrappers in poor, interior in very good- condition overall. Book block tight overall. Protected in modern mylar.…
