"Sales/posting to the USA suspended". Card covers with flaps, 96pp. Card edges a bit worn, pages lightly browned, previous owner's name top right of front fep, along with a small sticker stain; a good copy. Disentangling the personal and the political relationships which constituted the anit-war movement in North London before and during the First World War, Weller has clearly shown that it was not from existing socialist groups, nor from among middle-class pacifists, that it developed. Instead, it grew out of the 'rebel' milieu which had its roots in the syndicalist and industrial movements, the radical wing of the women's movement, and the network of organisations critical of the established labour movement. It was the stand of thousands of men and women at the local level which gave rise to a wider movement, and that, in its turn, laid the basis for the massive wave of industrial and social unrest immediately after the War.
