The present knowledge of amphibiotic insects preserved in different kinds of amber deposits is reported. At first sight amphibiotic insects do not seem to be able to get in contact with fossil resins. Neverthelessm if these insects are trapped as amber fossils they give us a special insight into the biotops they lived in, particularly into the different kinds and natures of waters in the scenery. The insect orders are listed tabularly after the amber deposits and their geological ages. Moreover, the biology of closely related fossil and of recent species are commented on. Two new fossil caddis flies are described from Baltic amber and from the Bitterfeld deposit: Nyctiophylax endrusseiti n. sp. and Plectrocnemia paulseni n. sp. Twenty four colour plates should gibe an exemplary overview of the amphibiotic insects preserved in amber. 120 pp., 24 color plates, 17 figs, 6 tabs, br. 8 [15 x 21 cm].
