Based on the Russian edition edited by E. N. Konshina (1955), it includes facsimile reproductions of the author's original notebook pages. 431 pages, this edition is a translation of The Notebooks of Dostoevsky, ed. by E. N. Konshina but with a number of important changes. The notes in this English ed. are presented in a substantially different order from that of the Russian ed. In the Russian ed. the notes follow the page order of Dostoevsky's notebooks, Dostoevsky jotted down notes on successive pages at widely different times; he would leave pages blank and then return to them with notes months and even years later. This ed. places the notes into an approximate chronological order.
