Sheet Music
Soft cover. Condition: Good. Classic Academy Award-winning sheet music for 'On The Atchison, Topeka And The Santa Fe,' with lyrics by Johnny Mercer and music by Harry Warren, issued in 1945 to promote MGM's Technicolor musical The Harvey Girls. The colorful photographic cover features Judy Garland prominently, with supporting cast credits including John Hodiak, Ray Bolger, Virginia O'Brien, Angela Lansbury, Marjorie Main, and Chill Wills. One of the signature railroad and Western-themed songs of the Golden Age of Hollywood musicals, this remains among the most recognizable Judy Garland sheet music issues of the 1940s. Condition is Good to Very Good overall. Covers show moderate handling wear, edge wear, creasing, several closed tears and chips at margins and corners, and scattered moisture staining/discoloration visible front and rear. Interior pages remain complete and legible with age toning, edge wear, and occasional small tears/chips, but no major loss to musical text noted. Fold remains intact and securely attached. Despite the noted wear, the piece retains strong display appeal due to the striking Judy Garland cover art and extensive Hollywood cast billing. This item is housed and ships in a protective, archival sleeve. 'The Harvey Girls' (1946) was one of MGM's major Technicolor musical productions and helped popularize nostalgic depictions of the American Southwest and railroad culture. The title song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became permanently associated with Judy Garland's career and the golden era of studio musicals. Johnny Mercer (1909-1976) was one of America's most celebrated lyricists and co-founder of Capitol Records, writing standards such as 'Moon River,' 'Skylark,' and 'Autumn Leaves.' Harry Warren (1893-1981) composed hundreds of songs for Broadway and Hollywood, including '42nd Street,' 'Lullaby of Broadway,' and 'Chattanooga Choo Choo,' and remains one of the most prolific American film composers of the twentieth century.
