April 1934 - Nov 1971: 2 copies of #12 (April 1934); #36 (July 1938), #37 (September 1938), #38 (February 1939), #39 (May 1939), #40 (August 1939), #41 (December 1939), #86 (December 1969), #90 (November 1971). These issues contain advertising, fold-out type specimens, news and reviews of the printing trade, etc. Also some interesting comments about the rise of Hitler in Germany, e. g. ".Tyrants always begin by persecuting the printers." Several of these issues are imprinted in red with the beautiful calligraphic signature of B. L. [Beatrice Lamberton] Warde (1900 -1969). Warde was marketing manager for the British Monotype Corporation from 1929 until her retirement in 1960. Warde authored the classic, THE CRYSTAL GOBLET: SIXTEEN ESSAYS ON TYPOGRAPHY. As Alan Hutt wrote in 1969: "She was an original typographical scholar of the first rank (the 'Paul Beaujon' Garamond and other studies in THE FLEURON and THE MONOTYPE RECORDER); she was a practicing typographer of sure taste and a calligrapher of elegance; for over 30 years she was a brilliant editor of the RECORDER and the MONOTYPE NEWSLETTER, as part of her devoted service to The Monotype Corporation as its publicity manager; she was Stanley Morison's inseparable and incomparable lieutenant in the great work of Britain's typographical renaissance; she was beyond peer as a public expositor, and propagandist for, good typography." 8.75" wide by 11.25" tall. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good condition. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 10 issues. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.
