In this letter, Ward makes plans to meet someone at a convenient time, in full: "Dear Sir, I intended calling upon you some time ago, but I had to go out of town. I trust tomorrow afternoon about 3pm will be a convenient hour to you as I shall be down town. I can call upon you at that time. I remain, Yours Faithfully, Herbert Ward." Partial tears along the fold; otherwise very good condition. British adventurer and African explorer. Ward went to the Congo in 1884 under the auspices of Sir Henry M. Stanley. He joined Stanley in the command to relieve Emin Pasha in the Sudan (1886), raising a collective force of over four hundred natives. Author of "Five Years with the Congo Cannibals," married the daughter of C. H. Sanfero in New York, 1890. He died at age 58.
