As new condition cream boards, forest green spine and gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped color illustrated dust jacket. Includes List of Other Books by Nathaniel Philbrick; Author Dedication; Preface: The Chariot; Acknowledg…ments; Notes; Bibliography; Illustration Credits and Index. Illustrated with black-and-white photographs, drawings, maps and frontispiece. A small remainder dot at lower page edge. "Does George Washington still matter? Bestsellng author Nathaniel Philbrick argues for Washington's unique contribution to the forging of America by retracing his journey as a new president through the new, unsure nation. When George Washington became president in 1789, the United States of American was still a loose and quarrelsome collection of states and a tentative political experiment. Washington undertook a tour of the ex-colonies to talk to ordinary citizens about his new government, and to imbue in them the idea of being one thing - Americans. In the fall of 2018, Nathaniel Philbrick embarked on his own journey into what Washington called "the infant woody country" to see for himself what America had become 229 years later. Writing in a thoughtful first person about his own adventures with his wife, Melissa, and their dog, Dora, Philbrick follows Washington's presidential excursions: from Mount Vernon to the new capital in New York; a month-long tour of Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island; a venture onto Long Island; and eventually across North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. That narrative moves smoothly between the eighteenth and twenty-first centuries as we see the country through both Washington's and Philbrick's eyes. Written at a mement when America's founding figures are under increasing scrutiny, Travels With George grapples bluntly and honestly with Washington's legacy as a man of the people, a reluctant president, and a plantation owner who held people is slavery. At historic houses and landmarks, Philbrick reports on the reinterpretations at work as he meets reenactors, tour guides, and other keepers of history's flame. He paints a picture of eighteenth-century America as divided and fraught as it is today, and he comes to understand how Washington compelled, enticed, stood up to, and listened to the many different people he met along the way - and how his all-consuming belief in the Union helped to create a nation." - from the inner front jacket flap. Lagin, Daniel (book design); Ward, Jeffrey L (map illustrations); Litman, David (jacket design); Philbrick, Melissa D. (author photograph) (illustrator).

Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. First Printing [Stated]. [6],950, [2] pages. Thomas Leo Clancy Jr. (April 12, 1947 - October 1, 2013) was an American novelist. He is best known for his technically detailed espionage and military-science storylines set during and after the Cold War. Seventeen of… his novels have been bestsellers and more than 100 million copies of his books have been sold. His name was also used on movie scripts written by ghostwriters, nonfiction books on military subjects occasionally with co-authors, and video games. He was a part-owner of his hometown Major League Baseball team, the Baltimore Orioles of the American League, and vice-chairman of their community activities and public affairs committees. Originally an insurance agent, his literary career began in 1984 when he sold his first military thriller novel The Hunt for Red October for $5,000 published by the small academic Naval Institute Press of Annapolis, Maryland. His works The Hunt for Red October (1984), Patriot Games (1987), Clear and Present Danger (1989), and The Sum of All Fears (1991) have been turned into commercially successful films. Actors Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, Chris Pine, and John Krasinski have played Clancy's most famous fictional character, Jack Ryan. Another well-known character of his, John Clark, has been portrayed by actors Willem Dafoe, Liev Schreiber, and Michael B. Jordan. Tom Clancy's works also inspired games such as the Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, The Division, and Splinter Cell series. Since Clancy's death in 2013, the Jack Ryan series has been continued by his family estate through a series of authors. Dead or Alive is a techno-thriller novel, written by Tom Clancy and co-written with Grant Blackwood, and released on December 7, 2010. It is Clancy's first novel in seven years after The Teeth of the Tiger (2003), and follows the hunt by The Campus for "the Emir", a Middle Eastern terrorist based on Osama bin Laden. It unites several characters from the Ryanverse, including former president Jack Ryan, his son Jack Ryan Jr., his nephews Dominic and Brian Caruso, and Rainbow Six veterans John Clark and Domingo Chavez. For years, Jack Ryan, Jr. and his colleagues at the Campus have waged an unofficial and highly effective campaign against the terrorists who threaten western civilization. The most dangerous of these is the Emir. This sadistic killer has masterminded the most vicious attacks on the west and has eluded capture by the world's law enforcement agencies. Now the Campus is on his trail. Joined by their latest recruits, John Clark and Ding Chavez, Jack Ryan, Jr. and his cousins, Dominick and Brian Caruso, are determined to catch the Emir and they will bring him in . . . dead or alive. The book debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Dead or Alive was announced by publisher Penguin Group in a press release on April 7, 2010. Penguin USA president David Shanks stated: "Tom's genius for telling a story with exceptional realism and cutting edge authenticity are his hallmarks as a writer. In his latest novel, he turns up the tension between U.S. forces and their most lethal rivals." Several characters from the Ryanverse such as Jack Ryan, John Clark, and The Campus were brought together in what was dubbed "the All-Star Team". A book trailer was released on November 4, 2010. Clancy promoted the novel in a video discussion with retired U.S. Air Force general Chuck Horner, which was released on December 3, 2010. Dead or Alive was launched by the Yeomen Warders and the Red Devil paratroopers at the Tower of London on the eve of its eventual release. The book was notable for its antagonist the Emir and his terrorist organization Umayyad Revolutionary Council, which were based on real-life terrorist Osama bin Laden and his group al Qaeda. It also inspired the idea that special forces units hunting for a terrorist like bin Laden are more likely to find him living in comfort, rather than in a cave in Pakistan or Afghanistan. This was proven true when. Jeffrey L. Ward (Maps), and David Burnett (author (illustrator).

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 288 pages. Published in 2000. Landmark collection of male nudes. One of the most beautiful erotic art photography books of our time. Advance Signed Copy of the First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with t…he regular trade edition and the Second Edition. Published in a tiny first print run as a hardcover original only. It was never revealed how many copies Greg Gorman signed in advance for the publisher as part of the latter's trade promotional campaign. It is clear nevertheless that very few ended up in private collectors' hands. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Greg Gorman and Daniel Power: Dark-brown ribbed cloth boards with titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Rock musician Abdias Marin photographic reproduction pasted in front. Photographs and Introduction by Greg Gorman. Preface by Sir Elton John, the world's greatest private collector of erotic art photography. Afterword by John Hurt. Acknowledgments, Biography, and List of Exhibitions appended at the end. Printed on sepia-toned, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Greg Gorman's "As I See It". The photographer's "summing-up" collection on the male nude. Almost ALL of the portraits are full-frontal, and include such celebrities as Christopher Atkins, David Sojka, Nicholas Gonzalez, Josh Duhamel, Aaron Long, Tony Ward, Jack Welsh, and Jeff Clark, among many others. Also has the celebrated sequence featuring the seemingly shy but extremely well-endowed model, "Speedy". Greg Gorman has said that what he wanted to capture permanently ("freeze", as it were, as only photographs do) is the boy/man, not the muscular, overdeveloped gym-type nor the pubescent, scrawny kid, but someone in-between, with a lean, supple, and clean-shaven body, regardless of his chronological age. Many of the boy/men in this collection are in their late-teens or early twenties. But someone like Christopher Atkins was already in his forties yet still had the "Blue Lagoon" good looks and physique that catapulted him to global stardom. Because for Gorman, the boy/man is the epitome of everything that makes the male specimen irresistible. All in all, his best book. An absolute "must-have" title for Greg Gorman collectors. This Advance Signed Copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in black pen-marker on the half-title page by Greg Gorman. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page or bookplate. Gorman's signature fills up the page. This title is a great art photography book. As far as we know, this is the only such Advance Signed Copy (of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing) available online and is in fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws or are the Second Edition. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. 212 sepia-toned plates. One of the most brilliant American photographers of our time. Some of the most beautiful and sexiest models and actors of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER GREG GORMAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1576870863. Signed by Author.
