Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1919. First edition. 75pp., frontispiece portrait of the Brigade Commander, and 4 full-page black and white illustrations by Captain F.W. Walter, M.C. The Royal Garrison Artillery (RGA) was formed in 1899 as a distinct arm of the British Army's Royal Regiment of Artillery serving al…ongside the other two arms of the Regiment, the Royal Field Artillery and the Royal Horse Artillery. The RGA were the 'technical' branch of the Royal Artillery who were responsible for much of the professionalisation of technical gunnery that was to occur during the First World War. The 77th Brigade, R.G.A. originally known as the 77th Heavy Artillery Group, was formed at Aldershot on October 27th, 1916, being transferred to Lydd on November 3, 1916. This is a history of the Brigade from its formation and the part it played in France in the First World War. The book is bound in the original grey cloth covered boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear, soiling and some staining on the boards. The top front corner is fairly heavily bumped and the other corners and spine ends are lightly bumped with wear and some fraying to the cloth on the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with some browning to the endpapers. There is no inscription. Walter, Captain F.W. (illustrator).

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A very good copy of the limited edition signed by Harry Clarke. Number 182 of 250. In the original full vellum binding with gilt illustration and titles to the front board and spine. With 24 full page illustrations by Harry Clarke - 12 in colour including the frontispiece…and 12 in sepia. There is also a full page black and white illustration and numerous black and white designs. Harry Clarke (1889-1931) is also known for his work with stained glass and he was a major figure in the Irish Arts and Crafts movement. The work includes poems by Walter de la Mare, Rupert Brooke, Thomas Hardy and John Masefield. The binding is bright and clean with minimal dulling to the vellum. There is some warping to the boards. Top page edges are gilted; remainder untrimmed. Internally the contents are complete and clean. The free endpapers have some browning and there is light marking towards the page edges particularly where the lack of trimming means that some pages are bigger than others. There is also occasional light edge nibbling - again related to the differing page sizes. Please enquire if you would like to see additional images to further assess condition. Harry Clarke (illustrator). Signed by Illustrator(s).
