Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Heavy cracking to front and rear hinges with netting exposed. Binding loose. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing, fraying and tearing to spine ends and edges. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front.

Here is another of the small decoratively bound hard cover books-in this case of poetry titled: Between Times by Walter Learned. I thought perhaps that this was a nom-de-plume but have been unable to find anything to confirm that. The Poetry website confirmed that: Learned, Walter. An American poet and translator; born in New London, CT, June 22, 1847; died on Dec. 11, 1915. He was apparently a life-long resident of New London. This small hard cover book (4 x 6 ¼ inches 134 pages) was published by the Frederick A. Stokes Company of New York dated 1891. The book is bound leafy papered boards with a quarter spine in dark green with elaborate gilt decorations and with gilt titles on the spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are slightly bumped with some loss of the paper finish at the corners and some chipping along the edge of the quarter spine. The spine is still bright and clean. Inside there is a former owner s bookplate and his nicely penned initials and a says ad there is also two former owner names. Inside the pages of poetry are clean with perhaps just one or two smudges. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not from a public library or a remainder.
