Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. All very good indeed. First Edition. Not price clipped and no inscriptions. Couple of tiny, tiny marks on the front endpaper, the back endpaper is pristine. NO shelfwear to strong wrappers. One absolutely tiny nick to wrapper at top of the spine. (sca…rcely noticeable). Very slight toning to pages but then this book is nearly 50 years old. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, with gilt block of publisher's device on front board. in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which is slightly faded but intact; otherwise a very good copy indeed. Illustrated by frontispiece and by 418 text figures. Decorated by title page vignette. A well illustrated study of the preparatory sketches and models made by sculptors before they are able to create their finished works of art. By Walter John Strachan (1903-94) who lectured on aspects of French art and culture. Being sold by a longstanding UK bookseller, ie., not a mass lister, which infers that this book is just as described with no nasty surprises. KINDLY note that an international address will incur extra postal/shipping charges as this book weighs 3 pounds without packing. I love sculpture and this book is a classic for the aficcionado, the academic or the student of sculpture.

Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Pictorial stiff wrappers (softcover), 79 pages : color illustrations ; 23 cm. Very good/fine, minimal shelf-wear. Inscribed by John Walter. In this compact but highly original publication, artist John Walter identifies a 'shonky' tendency in art that has previously gone under the ra…dar, bringing into focus artworks that are hand-made but not well crafted, that push the boundaries of good taste and orderliness. Walter illustrates his theory with examples of awkward, funny, exuberant art from across the past forty years, ranging from sculpture and performance to painting and architecture. Novelists Zoë Strachan and Louise Welsh broaden this exploration of the shonky into the world of literature in their 'Letter from Monkswood', while in 'The Shonky Factor' Walter assesses a list of artists for their shonkiness levels. Inscribed by Author(s).
