Fretz AG in Zürich in 100 nummerierten Exemplaren im Januar 1933 (No. 4) "Der Maler, Schriftst…eller und Kunstkritiker Walter Kern (1898?1966) stellte bereits 1917 im Kunsthaus Zürich aus und zog 1919 mit seinem Jugendfreund, dem Zeichner und Maler Robert Schürch, nach Genf. 1920?22 arbeitete Kern als kaufmännischer Angestellter und als freischaffender Maler in Madrid und Florenz. 1922?27 fand er in Thun eine Anstellung als Fremdsprachenkorrespondent und publizierte 1924 seinen ersten Gedichtband. 1928?1930 arbeitete er als Werbe- und Verkaufschef in Zürich, 1928 stellte er ausserdem an der Nationalen Kunstausstellung aus und gab 1930 Gedichte von Hans Arp heraus. 1930?1943 amtete er als Verkehrsdirektor von Davos und schrieb in dieser Zeit Monografien über Oscar Lüthy, Franz Rederer, Hermann Huber, Oskar Kokoschka und über die Malerei in Graubünden. 1944?1953 arbeitete Kern als selbständiger Werbeberater und publizierte zu Otto Meyer-Amden, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec und Turo Pedretti. 1948?1961 war er Mitglied der AICA, der Association Internationale des Critiques d?Art, 1965 wurde er zum Ehrenpräsident der Sektion Schweiz ernannt. 1953?1964 führte Kern die Buchdruckerei Winterthur und arbeitete bis zu seinem Tod als Schriftsteller und Maler in Uttwil am Bodensee."
