Several black-and-white photographic plates, complete. Two appendices in back. Pages are clean and intact overall but there is staining on front endpaper, many small stains on edges of text block, and light age toning. Covers are clean and intact overall but have a few marks, slight discoloration, light to moderate rubbing, and slight wear to extremities. Binding somewhat loosened along inner hinges but still strong and holding. A Good copy. An autobiographical account by Frederick William Wallace (1886-1958), a Scottish-Canadian author, journalist, historian, and photographer, in which he recounts his Atlantic voyage in 1930 aboard one of the last of the London-Australia iron clipper fleet, the Grand Duchess. In the Foreword, Wallace writes, "The story is largely a transcription of a diary kept during the passage. . I have translated my notes into more explanatory detail than would be found in a seaman's log book and have elaborated upon the daily routine, the vagaries of the weather as it affected the ship's progress from hour to hour, the construction and fittings, as well as giving some idea of the working of the ship." Wallace became well-known for his studies and books about maritime subjects.
