Modest rubbed wear to the spine ends and corner tips, minor stain to the cover, otherwise very good plus in brown cloth with gilt-embossed medallion to the front cover; brown textured endpapers. "The record of a carrier's combat action against the Axis Nations in the Pacific."--from the title-page. "USS Bunker Hill (CV/CVA/CVS-17, AVT-9) was one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy. The ship was named for the Battle of Bunker Hill in the American Revolutionary War. While covering the invasion of Okinawa, Bunker Hill was struck by two kamikazesn quick succession on 11 May 1945, setting the vessel on fire. Casualties exceeded 600, including 396 killed or missing, with 264 wounded. These were the second heaviest personnel losses suffered by any carrier to survive the war, after Franklin. After the attack, Bunker Hill returned to the U.S. mainland and was under repair when hostilities ended. After the war, Bunker Hill was employed as a troop transport bringing American service members back from the Pacific, and was decommissioned in 1947."--wikipedia. Quarto; [272] pages. Softcover. Condition: Good. Periodical. Quarto. [16]pp. Green stapled wrappers. Spine is faded and discolored at the edges, staples are oxidized, and with moderate edgewear, a good or better copy. Laid in is the publisher's mimeographed sheet, "The Program of Smoke," (heavily creased and torn at the foredge), which stridently declares the editors' intention to seek new forms of poetry unbound by convention or subject. A copy of a short-lived "little magazine," which ran from June 1931 to August 1937. Notable early appearance by Wallace Stevens ("The Pleasures of Merely Circulating") and William Carlos Williams ("An Early Martyr"), along with works by editors Susanna Valentine Mitchell and David C. DeJong, and contributions from Winfield Townley Scott, Lewis Jacobs, Frank Merchant, T.C. Wilson, and William Maas. *OCLC* locates no copies of the laid in mimeographs publisher's sheet. An uncommon magazine with a seemingly unrecorded broadside.…
