It follows her life from an exciting childhood in Europe, and in New England, where her father moved in literary and diplomatic circles, through her marriage to George Lathrop through an unstable marriage and tragedy in the loss of their son, and the emotional turmoil involved before her conversion to Catholicism and finally, after taking religious orders, Rose, now Mother Alfonsa, achieved her goal in the founding of the Rosary Hill Home for the poor with incurable cancer in New York's lower East Side. A vivid portrait of the period known as "flowering of New England" with the Alcotts, Margaret Sydney, Emma Lazarus and others. Illustrated with a color frontispiece and black and white plates by Nedda Walker. 160 pp Ex-library with relatively few markings, overall tight and clean in a very good dj. (spine label).
