The first seven issues of the first regular philosophical journal published in the United States. Founded by William Torrey Harris, Henry Clay Brockmeyer, and fellow Hegelians in St. Louis, Missouri in 1867, the periodical continued under Harris's editorship until the close of 1893. It included numerous first English translations by Harris, Brockmeyer, A.E.Kroeger and others of parts of important works by Hegel (including 'Phenomenology of Spirit'), Fichte, Schelling, Leibniz, Schopenhauer, &c., and its articles offered the first systematic study of German philosophy to appear in the United States, with original essays by J.H.Stirling, James Ward, William James, John Dewey and Charles Sanders Peirce.
