    Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Clean decorated cloth binding - first edition, first printing. Clean green cloth boards with pink, white, black and green scene on cover (a couple sitting by a garden pond). Pink lettering on cover, gold lettering and small decoration on spine. Tiny dent to spine (cloth not broken). No fraying or wear. Very light surface rubbing. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Pages and edges are clean. Previous owner name and date (1909) neatly penned on front free endpaper. Frontispiece illustration with clean tissue guard, with 7 additional full page illustrations. 357 pages. W. Hatherell, Illustrator (illustrator).

    Reprint of the 1909 illustrated Harper edition (publisher's "G-L" code upon copyright page for July 1936]. xviii, 285 pages. Hardcover: H 23.25cm x L 15.75cm. Lacks dust jacket. Black cloth; soiling and rubbing to front board's color pictorial paste-on; tears and some fraying at spine ends. Staining to text block's bottom edge. A few stains to interior leaves; toning/foxing occurring to pages opposite book's unpaged color plates; majority of leaves remain clean. Binding is firm. Scarce contemporary (1930s) bookseller ticket for Montgomery, Alabama Booklovers Shop affixed at front pastedown's bottom right corner.
