Good (some wear covers with very tiny stain rear covers; hingers cracked but binding still tight). Tall 8vo., green cloth, stamped in gilt, top edge gilt; 246 pages First Edition. Signed presentation on a front blank page: ?Presented to Miss Sadie Weidner by O. S. Kriebel.? Oscar Schultz Kriebel [1863-1932] was pastor of the Schwenkfelder Church in Palm, Pennsylvania. Sadie Lea Weidner [1875?1939] was born in Upper Milford, Pennsylvania and was an American missionary to Japan. She was involved in church reforms and was the founder of Mino mission in Japan. Atter several years in Japan, she returned to the United States in 1907 and visited local churches to introduce herself and ask for support of Miyagi Girls' School and its mission activity. It is probably during this time that she was presented with this book. The Schwenkfelder Church is a small American Christian body rooted in the 16th-century Protestant Reformation teachings of Caspar Schwenkfeld von Ossig [1489?1561]. A group of church members came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1731, and several migrations continued until 1737. The largest group, 180 Schwenkfelders, arrived in 1734. In 1782, the Society of Schwenkfelders was formed, and in 1909 the Schwenkfelder Church was incorporated. Enclosed with this book is a Sept. 24, 1911 dedication program for the New Schwenkfelder Church in Palm. Also, laid in are two vintage postcards of the church. Reprinted from Volume XIII, Proceedings of the Pennsylvania-German Society. Illustrated by Julius F. Sachse. (illustrator). Signed.

The Boston Book Company. Volume I-XIII (1889-1901). A Handsome, Lavishly Illustrated Chronicle of American Law, 1889-1901 [Journal]. Fuller, Horace W., Editor, Volumes I-XI. Baldwin, Thomas. Tileston, Editor, Volume XIII. The Green Bag: A Useless but Entertaining Magazine for Lawyers. Boston: The Boston Book Company. Volume I-XIII (1889-1901). 13 volumes. Indexed, Volume X has a cumulative index. Illustrated throughout with plates, photographs and engravings. Quarto (10-1/2" x 8"; 26.7 x 20.3 cm). Volume I: Contemporary three-quarter calf over marbled boards, raised bands and gilt title to spine. Others: contemporary three-quarter pebbled cloth over marbled boards, gilt fillets and titles to spines. (All volumes have similar appearance.) Some rubbing with minor wear, chip to head of Volume I, minor scuff to spine of Volume X, some hinges starting, one cracked but secure, internally clean. A handsome set. $1,500. * These are the first thirteen volumes of an important legal periodical that was published in 26 volumes from 1889 and 1914. As its subtitle suggests, The Green Bag is full of colorful anecdotes, humorous verse, curious cases and other diversions. It is also a useful resource for the legal historian, one that offers book notices and reviews, biographies of contemporary legal figures based on first-hand accounts, obituaries, studies of current events, professional notices, profiles of law schools throughout the United States and other important source materials. F.W. Maitland, Louis Brandeis and Theodore Dwight are among the many important jurists who contributed to this journal. Well designed and handsomely produced, it is a pleasure to read and handle these volumes. Marke, A Catalogue of the Law Collection at New York University (1953) 1160. The Boston Book Company. Volume I-XIII (1889-1901) (illustrator).
