Lymnaea stagnalis (L., 1758) is among the most widespread and well-studied species of freshwater Mollusca of the northern hemisphere. It is also notoriously known for its huge conchological variability. The history of scientific exploration of this species may be traced back to the end of the 16th century (Ulisse Aldrovandi in R…enaissance Italy) and, thus, L. stagnalis has been chosen as a proper model taxon to demonstrate how changes in theoretical foundations and methodology of animal taxonomy have been reflected in the practice of classification of a particular taxon, especially on the intraspecific level. In this paper, I depict the long story of recognition of L. stagnalis by naturalists and biologists since the 16th century up to the present day. It is shown that different taxonomic philosophies (essentialism, population thinking, tree thinking) led to different views on the species' internal structure and its systematic position itself. The problem of how to deal with intraspecific variability in the taxonomic arrangement of L. stagnalis has been a central problem that made systematists change their opinion following conceptual shifts in taxonomic theory. 13 pp., 4 figs, 4.

The article represents an overview of 29 biological species of the radicine snails (genera Ampullaceana Servain, 1882, Bullastra Bergh, 1901, Racesina Vinarski & Bolotov, 2018, Kamtschaticana Kruglov & Starobogatov, 1984, Myxas G.B. Sowerby I, 1822, Orientogalba Kruglov & Starobogatov, 1985; Peregriana Servain, 1882, Radix Montf…ort, 1810, and Tibetoradix Bolotov, Vinarski & Aksenova, 2018) recovered during our previous molecular taxonomic study (Aksenova et al. 2018a; Scientific Reports, 8: 11199). For each species, the following information is provided: scientific name, a (non-exhaustive) list of synonyms, type locality, type materials, shell and copulative apparatus morphology, distribution, and nomenclatural and taxonomic remarks. The colour images of shell(s) of each species are also given as well as illustrations of the copulatory apparatuses. We revealed a great conchological variation in the radicines, both intra- and interspecific, alongside with striking uniformity in the structure of their copulatory apparatuses. The latter was once thought to be a reliable tool for species delineation and identification in this snail group. The total of 29 species characterised here represents, probably, only a subset of the global taxonomic richness of the radicine snails, which approaches 50 species. 32 pp., 9 figs, 4 tabs, 4.

In 1951, the Swedish malacologist Bengt Hubendick published a catalog of species-group names in the family Lymnaeidae proposed since 1758. This catalog includes 1151 entries, with information on their type localities, bibliographic references, and the position of each taxon in the then used system. Extinct taxa were not listed.…This publication is an expanded and substantially revised version of Hubendick's catalog, taking into account all species-group names proposed for the pond snails, from 1951 to 2024, as well a number of names once overlooked by Hubendick. The present Nomenclator contains 1557 names, for each of which a reference to the original description, an indication of the type locality, the position of the taxon in the current system, and an indication of a later publication in which a photographic image of the type is given (if such a publication occured). The Aral and Caspian Seas belong to the group of the World's largest brackish water basins that are characterized by a long geological history and unique biota, including a rich and diverse fauna of mollusks (bivalves and gastropods). Though the history of scientific exploration of the Aralo-Caspian malacofauna can be traced bac…k to the end of the 18th century, there is still a lack of a comprehensive and illustrated survey of Mollusca of these two sea basins. The book provides an annotated inventory of the recent Bivalvia and Gastropoda of the Aral and Caspian Seas, with their synonymy, notes on ecology and distribution, and images of shells (including numerous images of type specimens - holotypes, lectotypes, syntypes, etc.). An extensive overview of the physical geographical conditions of the two basins as well as their geological history is provided alongside with an outline of the historical development of their malacofaunas. The systematic part contains a description of the fauna, represented in the Aral Sea by two species of Gastropoda and seven species of Bivalvia, and in the Caspian Sea by 33-34 species of Bivalvia and 63 species of Gastropoda. These estimates, however, are of provisional character only, since the high level of taxonomic uncertainty makes it impossible to determine exactly the actual number of living species. A special discussion is devoted to the drastic degradation of the Aralo-Caspian malacofauna in the former century, which was caused primarily by the anthropogenic destruction of the aquatic environment and inflow of alien molluscan species. 124 pp., 16 color plates, 38 text figs, 5 tabs, br. 4.

Weil es diese Mà glichkeit aber oftmals nicht gibt, versuchten die Arbeitgeberverbände schon in den 1950er Jahren, ihre Mitglieder auch ohne einschlägige Verbandstarifverträge vor Arbeitskämpfen zu schützen, indem sie in ihre Satzungen Klauseln aufnahmen, wonach sich die Mitglieder verpflichteten, keine Firmentarifverträge abzuschlieÃen. Nachdem das Bundesarbeitsgericht diesen Satzungsbestimmungen bereits im Jahr 1955 keine Wirkungen für und gegen die Gewerkschaften zusprach, entzündete sich um die Jahrtausendwende eine im Wesentlichen im Lichte der Koalitionsfreiheit geführte Diskussion darüber, ob der verbandsangehà rige Arbeitgeber nicht im Wege der richterlichen Rechtsfortbildung aus dem Anwendungsbereich des § 2 Absatz 1 TVG, der auch ihm die Tariffähigkeit verleiht, zu streichen sei, mit der Folge, dass er kraft Gesetzes auÃer Stande sei, Firmentarifverträge zu schlieÃen. Obwohl es seit dem Inkrafttreten des Grundgesetzes zur Gepflogenheit geworden ist, gewünschte Ergebnisse unmittelbar oder mittelbar aus der Verfassung herzuleiten, legt sich das Grundgesetz nach der Auffassung des Autors zu dieser Frage nicht fest. Ohne eine Ãberlagerung mit eigenen Wertungen lassen sich aus der Verfassung kaum verbindliche Vorgaben für Detailfragen des Zivilrechts ableiten. Stattdessen unternimmt der Autor den Versuch, nachzuweisen, dass ein Verlust der Tariffähigkeit aus Anlass eines Beitritts zum Arbeitgeberverband nicht eintreten kann. Fähigkeiten kà nnen durch Rechtsgeschäft oder als Nebenfolge eines Rechtsgeschäfts nicht abbedungen werden. Das folgt schon aus § 137 Satz 1 BGB: "Die Befugnis zur Verfügung über ein veräuÃerliches Recht kann nicht durch Rechtsgeschäft ausgeschlossen oder beschränkt werden". Aus der Norm ergibt sich auch auf Arbeitnehmerseite, dass ein Arbeiter oder Angestellter trotz Gewerkschaftsmitgliedschaft seine Fähigkeit beibehält, einer weiteren Gewerkschaft beizutreten.

The monograph summarizes information on taxonomy, nomenclature, distribution and some aspects of bionomics of molluscs of the former USSR fresh and brackish waters. This 'Analytical Catalogue' is a deeply improved and updated version of two previously published catalogue works (Yu. I. Kantor, A. V. Sysoev "Catalogue of mollusks…of Russia and adjacent countries", 2002, in Russian; and Yu. I. Kantor, M. V. Vinarski, A. A. Shileyko, A. V. Sysoev "Catalogue of the continental mollusks of Russia and adjacent territories", 2010). In total, the data of 424 nominal species of Bivalvia and 728 nominal species of Gastropoda are included into this book. The actual species richness of aquatic continental molluscs of the former USSR perhaps is significantly lower since validity of many of these nominal species may be questioned and a portion of them is destined to be synonymized in future. During preparation of the book the authors tried to take into account different views on systematization of the ex-USSR aquatic molluscs and to find some correspondence between the 'Russian' system (founded in 1960-1970s by Ya. I. Starobogatov) and the approach followed by malacologists wrorking outside Russia. Current approaches to the 'species problem' in malacology are briefly discussed. Also, the catalogue includes information about distribution of all molluscan species among large regions of the former USSR area, some data about invasions of alien species and the conservation status of indigenous taxa in accordance with IUCN Red List criteria.
