Reverend Telford Varley (1866-1938) was an educator, historian, and clergyman. He was the first headmaster of Peter Symonds School in Winchester, serving from 1897 to 1926. During his tenure, he wrote and contributed to popular local histories and was ordained as a priest in 1908. His books focused on Hampshire, Winchester, and the Isle of Wight, blending historical accounts with picturesque illustrations by Wilfred Ball. Ref HHH 5.
