Contact seller5-star sellerFirst Edition. Octavo. 18cm. Publisher's original deep brown polished roan, titled and embellished in rather lavish gilt to spine and boards. 304pp. Minor wear to corners and spine ends, bright and sharp, a very good copy indeed. Internally clean, coated endpapers with some sort of chemical reaction causing significant discolora…tion (apparently a hallmark of this volume). Foxing to some tissue guards and some scattered spotting to prelims . A rather beautifully produced little gift book, immensely popular at the time of publication. This issue contains, among other delights, a short comedy sketch entitled "The Politician of Podunk" which is possibly the earliest usage of that term in such a context.
