The surviving members of a super scientific race of aliens forced to evacuate their own world near Sirius in the constellation Canis Major emigrate to our solar system and their spacecraft, an artificial satellite, is placed in orbit between the Sun and Mercury (Vulcan,…the legendary tenth planet). The aliens create Mankind in their own image and put it on Earth. Later, the Vulcans discover that the entire Solar System will break up due to "mutational change." That is now occurring: Mercury and Earth's moon have disintegrated, the other planets have shifted in their orbits, and half of the Earth has been destroyed by earthquakes. But the worst is still to come. The Vulcans destroy Earth's civilization so it can be rebuilt and mankind can be conditioned to use science for peaceful purposes and curtail "the insatiable urge of Man to destroy." The first six issues edited by Alistair Paterson (and published by Scion), the rest by John Russell Fearn himself (and published, from no 8, by Dragon Publications). In: Harbottle & Holland: British SF Paperbacks And Magazines 1949-1956: An Annotated Bibliography And Guide, p. 154. ''Vargo Statten Science Fiction Magazine owed its existence to the success of Scion's paperback-book line, which included many sf novels written by John Russell Fearn writing as ''Vargo Statten''.
