David Valjalo (Iquique, 1924 - Santiago, 2005), was a Chilean poet, essayist, narrator, anthologist, who lived outside of Chile for 30 yeas, (1960 - 1990), with much of that time spent in Los Angeles, CA. He was editor of the magazine Chilean Literature in Exile (later Chilean Literature, Creation and Criticism) in Los Angeles, California, and in Madrid, Spain. His poetry has been translated into English, French, German, Romanian, and Portuguese. While in Los Angeles, Valjalo was director of the California Chamber Theater where he presented classical theater and poetry exhibitions, shows that received praise from the Los Angeles Times. Cultural Ad Honorem was added in California between 1970-1973. He was also Director of the Society of Writers of Chile and Vice President of the Ateneo de Santiago.
