Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Woodcuts; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 80 pages; HC in publisher's decorative red cloth. Heavily embossed bold title design to spine; pictorial vignette in silver, gilt and black to elaborately lettered cover board. Scarce juvenile poetry collection embellished with numerous woodcuts from designs by Pletsch. Worn copy with shelf rub to boards at corners and spine ends; fray at spine ends and corners. Lettering and pictorial elements to cover and spine remain bold. Tea toned stain to the blank front endpages with resulting tipple to the affected pages and the coated front endsheets. Binding partially split at the rear endpage joint; half of free rear endpage missing with wear and soiling. Most seriois flaw is that page 17/18 missing more than half of the page along a jagged tear. Adjoining pages have short closed margin tears. Mild soiling to scattered pages. Gift inscription to front endpage date 1877. Charming woodcut illustrations throughout. Scarce; located in only 5 University special collections searched by Worldcat. Compromised but decent in most regards. Fair to good only, thus.
