The author, a historian, argues that despite the Romanian's claims of oppression, the Hungarian government has been relatively tolerant of Romanian culture and language. The book draws on a variety of sources, including historical documents, interviews, and personal observations. It provides a comprehensive overview of the complex relationship between these two groups, shedding light on the historical and social factors that have shaped their interactions. The author's balanced perspective and thorough research make this book an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the history of Transylvania and the challenges facing multiethnic societies today. Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a comprehensive analysis of burgeoning nationalist movements. The author argues that these movements are not simply the result of linguistic or cultural differences, but are driven by a belief in the superiority of particular national identities. The author examines the historical roots of nationalism, tracing its origins to the rise of nation-states in Europe. The author then explores the complex relationship between nationalism and concepts of equality and freedom, arguing that these movements often contradict liberal values. The book also explores the potential consequences of nationalism, arguing that it can lead to the dissolution of existing nation-states and exacerbate conflict. The author concludes by suggesting that in order to address the challenges posed by nationalism, we must develop a new understanding of national identity and its relationship to other forms of collective identity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book takes us back to the heart of 19th century Hungary, a time of great political and social upheaval. We are introduced to a colourful cast of characters, from the proud aristocracy to the humble village notary and curate. The author masterfully paints a picture of rural life, where tradition and hierarchy hold sway, but the winds of change are beginning to stir. The story revolves around a series of events in the village of Tissaret, where the old order, embodied by the powerful Rety family, is challenged by the burgeoning forces of liberalism. The book explores the complex dynamics between the powerful, the powerless, and those in between, revealing the intricate web of relationships that bind them together. Through rich and vivid language, the author captures the essence of a society on the cusp of change, and ultimately reminds us that even the most rigid social structures can be cracked by the relentless march of time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition of this contemporary account of the first major dam completed by the Tennessee Valley Authority and an early demonstration of the New Deal's program of public power, flood control, conservation, and regional planning. 4to (8.75" x 11.5"), stapled printed wrappers, 39 pages, extensively illustrated with b/w photographs, diagrams, and a double-page map. Published by the United States Government Printing Office in 1936 and prepared by the TYA Division of Information. Published in the year Norris Dam became operational, the booklet documents its construction through dramatic images of workers, concrete pouring, powerhouse framing, turbines, and the completed structure. The concluding photographs of controlled water, cultivated ground, and pastoral scenery frame the dam as the technological center of a regenerated landscape—an accomplished example of the TVA's merger of design and public persuasion. The wraparound cover, printed in deep blue on tan stock, reduces the dam's concrete piers to a forceful Art Deco composition of converging diagonals and monumental slab-serif lettering. Its blue back wrapper reverses the palette to present a finely drawn technical section through the dam and powerhouse: monument on the front, mechanism on the back. No designer credited. Bumping to extremities, with minor open tear to bottom corner of front wrapper. Moderate damp staining to front wrapper, affecting mostly the bottom corner of leaves.
