Booklet - Unbound Pages. Condition: Very Good. In 1664, Colonel James Turner and members of his family; John, William, Mary, and Ely Turner were tried at the Old Bailey for felony and burglary. The case was unusual not only for the involvement of a former Parliamentarian officer but for the breadth of the accused, spanning multi…ple generations. The Turners were charged with breaking and entering, and with theft of goods from private dwellings, a dramatic fall from the Colonel's earlier military standing. The trial drew attention for its blend of domestic scandal and criminal enterprise, and for the suggestion that political dislocation in the wake of the Restoration had driven some former Commonwealth figures into desperate circumstances. The proceedings ended with convictions, underscoring the shifting fortunes of those once aligned with Parliament's cause. 33 pages, printed in double columns. Printed between 1809 and 1826, these historic documents are vivid extracts from Cobbett's State Trials; pages from the courtroom record that preserve the voices, arguments, and verdicts which helped shape the course of British justice and still echo through its constitutional legacy.
