Jusqu'en 2007, il a enseigné comme maître de conférences au Séminaire d'Asie de l'Est de l'Université libre de Berlin. Ses recherches portaient sur la bibliographie et la juristique mandarinale. Ab 1987 war er als Leitender Bibliotheksdirektor an der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, Preußischer Kulturbesitz, unter anderem für die Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB) zuständig. Bis 2007 lehrte er als Privatdozent am Ostasiatischen Seminar der FU Berlin. Zu seinen Forschungsschwerpunkten gehörten Bibliographie und Mandjuristik. Très rare exemplaire du tirage de luxe de cette anthologie littéraire sur la Chine, préfacé par Edouard Herriot, qui écrit : "La Chine a droit au respect de tout être vraiment instruit et civilisé. Elle est la doyenne des nations ; notre histoire, comparée à la sienne, ne semble plus qu'une enfance. Confucius, ce nomade méditant, n'est-il pas le premier type du ministre philosophe ?". Futur vice-ministre des chemins de fer, Tsen Tsonming vécut en France de 1912 à 1925 ; il propose ici les extraits d'auteurs divers parmi lesquels Tchang-Tseu, Shung King, Wen-Ti des Han, Han Yu, Tchang Tai, Sou Chi, Wang Ying-Ming, Hoang Li-Tcheou, Tsai Yuan-Pei, Wang Tsing-Wei, Liyuying (ce dernier "fonda en France des revues en langue chinoise pour introduire en Chine les doctrines républicaines et socialistes").
