Seller: Yesterday's Book Shop, CORVALLIS, OR, U.S.A.Yesterday's Book Shop
Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Poor. 6th Edition. See photos for condition details. Hardcover in very poor condition as book is in numerous pieces, although all parts are present. The collectible part of this book is actually the bookplate of George Frederick Kunz which is on the frontispiece of the detached front board. The bookplate sh…ows some minor scuffing and spotting but matches the one listed in the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester NH. As far as the book condition, both boards are detached and spine is mostly chipped away. Exterior is heavily worn, particularly on the edges. The marbled and pages in front and rear are present although the front marbled end page is detached and the rear marbled end page is attached to the rear board, which is also separated. The rear pastedown contains an early 19th century bookseller advertising square. The remaining text pages are all readable but there is considerable staining present in the rear section of the book and some pages are barely hanging on. Foxing is also present throughout. It is important to note that this is only volume 1 of the set. Although complete as volume 1 of the 1802 edition, the real value is in the bookplate. The book itself is only usable for reading or rebinding purpose - it's what we consider "a book in a bag" because of the condition being extremely poor.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. Vol 1 - vi, [ii], cxlix, [i], 242 pages + frontispiece and 94 other plates. Vol 2 - [iv], 324 pages + 114 plates. Vol 3 part 1 - [vi], 272 pages + 62 plates. Vol 3 part 2 - [ii], 273-399, [11] pages + 153 plates. I make the total of plates 423 + the frontispiece to vol 1. It is difficult to be sure as… some of the plates are numbered in sequence, others not numbered and some numbered according to the paragraphs in the text to which they refer and not in a continuous sequence. All in all very confusing. Page numbers cxliii and cxliv in volume 1 are duplicated. Text is complete. In old leather boards with replacement modern spines, but retaining the old lettering labels. Plates are a bit more spotted and stained than the pages. Some plates detached. A heavy set of 4 volumes.

Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Good. No Dust Jacket. A wonderful historical treasure. Although this is Part I of the History of the Seven Years, War, it is Vol II of the posthumous works of Frederick (spelled Frederic here) II, King of Prussia. The book is 8 " by 5 1/4", weighs a hair over 1 lb., and is bound in full leather, The binding… looks a bit worn , especially the top of the spine, but it is sound. The book interior has a small bit of foxing, not enough to be bothersome, and occasional stains, nothing major. The pages have a built-in wave, not the result of water damage (for which I see no evidence), but perhaps caused by some sort of pressure, or perhaps by the paper itself puckering a little as it dried out in the manufacturing process. A large number of pages are spotlessly clean. You will enjoy the look and feel of this book, although the binding could certainly use repair. Scanned images on request.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near fine. Second English edition (?). Octavo, 3 volumes, 298pp., 300pp., 292pp. A crisp, clean, unsophisticated set, bound in full contemporary light brown sheep, with red morocco spine labels. Extremities a little dry, and some minor wear to corners, but a nice, appealing set, near fine. Bound without hal…f-titles or advertisements. The debut novel by this prolific Swiss novelist, who wrote in French (and who also translated the first French editions of Jane Austen's "Sense and Sensibility" and "Persuasion"). Stated "Second Edition" on each title page. We are unsure if this means that the translation was produced from the second Swiss edition, or if this is the second English edition.
