Major Pine-Coffin, who was an English army officer and colonial administrator who served as Governor of St. Helena from 1821 to 23, translated Stutterheimās work into English in 1806. Pine-Coffin bemoaned the fact that he could not find a suitable map of the area for his edition, so for this N&MP edition we have added a useful map of the battle from Sir Archibald Alisonās Atlas.The notes āby a French officerā are ascribed to Napoleon.At the battle Napoleon employed a strategic deception, feigning weakness to lure the enemy into a vulnerable position.
