Scholarly study of pre-Hellenistic Christianity, informed by the Dead Sea Scrolls and Nag Hammadi library, then recently discovered. First only of a trilogy on Church history, the later volumes not published in English until 1973 & 1977, on Hellenistic and Latin influences respectively. Daniélou was a Jesuit scholar whose work concentrated on Church history. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured. Book shows some wear, corners bumped, minor stains & mottling; price-clipped jacket rubbed & chipped with some short tears & creases, ink name on both endsheets; laid in is a [1965] receipt for the book from the Seminary Student Store in San Anselmo, CA.
