El códice contiene la parte final del libro III, seis libros completos (IV-IX) y fragmentos de los libros X-XII de la enciclopedia científica De natura rerum de Tomás de Cantimpré, dominico flamenco nacido alrededor de 1204. Redactó la obra a lo largo de 15 años, entre 1228 y 1244, constando de 19 libros de acuerdo con el plan siguiente: el hombre (I-III), los animales (IV-IX), las plantas (X-XII), las aguas (XIII), piedras y metales (XIV-XV), astronomía, astrología y meteorología (XVI-XVIII), elementos (XIX). Contiene también el códice un tratadito de cetrería, probablemente de los siglos XII-XIII. Asímismo un Tacuinum sanitatis incompleto. El manuscrito ha sido atribuído en otras épocas a San Alberto Magno. 46x33 cm. Encuadernación plena piel de época gofrada con ruedas para el facsímil y holandesa piel estudio.

Espectacular edición del Códice científico más valioso de la biblioteca universitaria de Granada, el "Libro de los animales y plantas de San Alberto Magno", que comprende los diez manuscritos de Cantimpré sobre la fauna y la flora, y el Tacuinum Sanitatis, de Ibn Butlan, de carácter dietético y terapéutico. Tomás de Cantimpré, dominico flamenco, terminó en 1246 su Rerum Natura, especie de enciclopedia científica medieval, que abarca todas las ciencias naturales. Está ricamente iluminado con 611 miniaturas con un gran número de dibujos de animales a todo color, dentro de un texto en letra gótica. El Tacuim sanitatis, comprende bellísimas ilustraciones de mayor tamaño, en las que destacan los fondos rameados en oro y color como motivo ornamental central, sobre los cuales aparecen figuras humanas, escenas de caza, etc., todas ricamente coloreadas.
