Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Alta Adkins (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. 287, [1] pages. The DJ is price clipped. The DJ is in a plastic sleeve. Foreword by Jack L. Van Loan. Plumb was shot down over Hanoi, taken prisoner, tortured and spent 2103 days in Vietnamese Prison camps. Joseph Charles "Charlie" Plumb Jr. (born November 3, 1942) is an American former navy fighter pilot, Vietnam prisoner of war, author, and motivational speaker who is known for his experience as a POW. Plumb began his military career at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he graduated in 1964 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned in the US Navy. During the Vietnam War, he was assigned to fly the F-4 Phantom jet and unfortunately, on his 75th mission, his plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile. He and his co-pilot were taken captive by the North Vietnamese. Upon repatriation, after 2,103 days in captivity, Plumb continued his career in the US Naval Reserve until retiring as a Navy Captain in 1991. Plumb completed 74 successful combat missions and was shot down during his 75th mission on Ho Chi Minh's birthday, May 19, 1967. Plumb returned home as a repatriated POW in February 1973. Shortly after retiring from the Navy, Plumb became a motivational speaker sharing his experience and story as a former POW. He titled his story "the triumph of an ordinary man" and authored two books, "I'm No Hero" and "The Last Domino." Glen DeWerff was an educator in Kansas City, Kansas who received his M.A. from Kansas University. I'm No Hero is the autobiography of Captain J. Charles Plumb. It is also the detailed story of American POW's in Viet Nam who faced an isolated world of degradation, loneliness, tedium, hunger and pain. More significantly, it is a story of hope for it deals directly with the techniques used by the POW's to survive. In a sincere, straightforward, humorous style, he draws upon his experience as a POW to demonstrate how to turn adversities into assets whether in our homes, or in today's challenging marketplace. He leaves his readers wanting to achieve and excel, no matter what the obstacles.
