Het derde hoofdstuk gaat over de vraag wie tot sanctioneren bevoegd is of zou moeten zijn wanneer de raadsman in de fout gaat. Het vierde hoofdstuk behandelt twee historische politieke processen, de zaak Dreyfus in Frankrijk en de zaak Hogerhuis in Nederland. Het vijfde gaat over de ervaringen die de auteur opdeed tijdens haar bemoeienissen met de mensenrechtensituatie in Turkije. Het zesde en laatste hoofdstuk tenslotte is de enigszins bewerkte tekst van het afscheidscollege dat de auteur als hoogleraar strafrecht aan de Universiteit Maastricht hield; daarin komen de moeizame relaties tussen de rechtspraak, de verdediging en de media aan bod.
