Magazine. First editions. A large collection of material related to the American Photographic Historical Society including 141 issues of Photographica and Photographica/Journal--their magazine--and 72 issues of their newsletter, In Focus. "The first publication of the American Photographic Historical Society (APHS) was a four-page newsletter called News. In the Fall of 1970, the publication emerged in a magazine format. Its editor was Harvey Zucker, who later renamed it, Photographica. Subsequent editors were George Gilbert and William B. Welling. For most of the first 20 years, the publication was published 10-times a year. Economies ultimately forced a bi-monthly schedule. For a four year period (1984-87), Photographica became Photographica/Journal as a bi-monthly, edited for alternate editions by Jack Naylor of the Photographic Historical Society of New England and by Gilbert for the APHS. In 1988, Photographica reemerged as an APHS publication, now a quarterly. A new membership publication, a four-page newsletter, In Focus, was created to provide monthly news of events and meetings." THE COLLECTION INCLUDES: a long, broken run of 141 issues of Photographica and Photographica/Journal, 1975 through 2002 (staple-bound; variable paginations; illustrated; 8.5 x 11 inches); 72 issues of "In Focus," '93-'02; "Index to News + Photographica and Photographica/Journal (1969-1992)," with "nearly 600 entries [that] reflect the major stories, the columns and the reprint information of technical interest;" "Photographica '72," with 14 papers presented at the 1972 convention; "Photographica 10-78," with reprints of articles from the first ten years; "The Origins and Early History of 35mm Photography" by Thurman F. Naylor, 12/1980 supplement; 15 member directories, '83-'99; and about twenty additional ephemeral items such as convention programs, membership forms, postcards, special announcements, etc. A couple of the magazines are in Good condition, otherwise all are in Very Good to Fine. All the material is housed chronologically in plastic sleeves in binders; the copies of In Focus have been hole-punched to the margin. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. Due to size and weight, international and expedited shipping may be more than quoted.
