Duodecimo; xii+, 143 pages, grey cloth, deckle-edged; x-library with markings Mrs. Cope studied parish registers from her youth and became a recognized paleographer and amateur historian. This, her first book, continues as an important text (currently available by the title HOW TO READ OLD DOCUMENTS). With 11 plates, of which the last is a comparative table of various manuscript alphabets. In Mr. Martin's Introduction he relates mulitple examples of faulty readings made by less-equipped readers, and their consequences. .
