This volume features 115 examples of Paul Harris' artwork made between 1949 and 1999. They can be divided loosely into three periods which intermingle and overlap. The first is highly experimental: works done in papier mache, plaster, and fabric. Concurrently, Harris made a series of male heads, cloned from one mold in vacuum formed plexiglas. The third and final period includes works made of wood or cast in bronze - diverse in richness of ideas and pared down in form to absolute essentials. Minor shelf wear. No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Untitled acrylic and treated paper mounted on thick card stock, measuring 11 3/8" x 16" (not including backing) and 15" x 20" with backing; signed and dated by the artist in the lower left hand margin. Brown, together with Elmer Bischoff, Nathan Oliveira and Richard Diebenkorn, was a member of what came to be known as the Bay Area Figurative Movement. Together with his lover Paul Wonner, Brown represented the so called 'Bridge Generation' of the movement, which was heavily influenced by the work of the more established artists within the group, most notably Diebenkorn, with whom they worked and shared a studio. This collage is indicative of Brown's 'peel away palette' style which he developed later on in life, examples of which were featured in the exhibition "Theophilus Brown at 90: Recent Abstract Collages" held in san Francisco in 2009. On the verso is the name Pette Boepple, possibly a relative of noted sculptor Willard Boepple. Light soiling and paint smears to board margins, otherwise a NF example of work by a major 20th century Bay Area artist. Signed by Author(s).…
