This booklet is a history of the Philadelphia School of Design For Women, which merged with Moore Institute of Art, Science and Industry in 1932. The PSODFW was founded in 1844. Includes a folding photograph showing… an average daily attendance (about 100 students). At the time this history was written, Henry Snell and R. Sloan Bredin (of New Hope School fame) were on the faculty and Harriet Sartain was the Dean. Gives a list of graduates who are still active in the Arts. Illustrations include BW portraits of some of the affiliated individuals as well as a few scenes. A nice piece of art and local history. G- (Covers have worn off book block and are present though also soiled; pages are crisp and clean.).

Very rare title SC book has Oatmeal colored oversize flexible card stock covers with a slate texture, russet brown font on fc, and is in VERY GOOD Shape. Some shelf wear, bumped and rubed corners…and spine ends, large dark stain (lamp oil?) covers almost all of the rc, wraps around to fc just a little bit. No foxing, stains, or internal damage or repairs of any kind. Tight, square, strong hinges, and clean, with a faint musty odor. No DJ. Contains Dozens of photos including a 4 page pullout showing class of 1922 attached opposite title page. This school was a pioneer of women's rights to an education, and ability to support themself long before it was common or popular. Started by Mrs. Sarah Peter in 1844 in her own home in Philadelphia. Fascinating story of the school, anecdotes, photos of past students, officers, and faculty. This tome would be of great aid to anyone researching early PA or Philadelphia Secondary Education History. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. B&W Photograph & Illustrations (illustrator).
