Der deutsche Wirtschaftswissenschaftler Theodor Otto Cassau (1884 ? 1972) beschäftigte sich auch mit der Gewerkschaftsgeschichte. 1918 war er Co-Vorsitzender des Erfurter Arbeiter- und Soldatenrates und nahm als Delegierter für den Wahlbezirk Erfurt am 1. Rätekongress in Berlin teil, wobei er zur Fraktion der Mehrheitssozialisten (MSPD) gehörte. Zwischen 1918 und 1921 war er Berater des Reichswirtschaftsministeriums, von 1921 bis 1923 war er volkswirtschaftliches Syndikus des Deutschen Holzarbeiterverbandes, danach leitet er bis 1928 den Wirtschaftsteil des Berliner Tageblattes. Zwischen 1928 und 1933 war Cassau Direktor des Preußischen Statistischen Landesamtes.
